We’re stoked to welcome snowboarder Madison Blackley to the SALTT athlete team! We caught up with her for a quick interview so you can get to know her better. Read the interview below and be sure to check out her Instagram!

Q. For those who don’t know you yet, can you share a little about yourself and how you first got into snowboarding?
I am so thankful my dad was an early boarder in the 80s so it only made sense that he wasn’t going to let us ski forever. Started when I was 3 years old and have been on board since the age of 8.
Q. Where did you grow up, and what was the snowboarding scene like there?
I was born and raised in Park City, in the early years it was a mecca, especially since the Olympics came to SLC in 2002. It was so cool to be always surrounded by some of the best boarders in the world to look up to growing up.

Q. How has snowboarding shaped the way you look at life outside of the snow scene?
It has definitely made me rethink how I like to connect with nature and the value and importance of the outdoors and our environment as a whole. It reminds me that there is more to life than just the daily grind and we are so small yet can have such a huge impact.
Q. Who were your biggest influences or inspirations coming up in the snow world?
One of my biggest inspirations has been Jamie Anderson and Robin Van Gyn, they are both just such power houses that continue to present more opportunity for others while still crushing their own careers through so many years and ups and downs.

Q. How would you describe your riding style in three words?
My riding style is energetic, tenacious and entertaining.
Q. What’s been your favorite project or trip you’ve been a part of so far?
A couple seasons ago I filmed a backcountry film that was mostly sled accessed. It was difficult to break into new terrain with new people but it was very rewarding to make it all happen and be able to create new experiences and challenges.
Q. Do you have any dream spots or places you’re still hoping to ride?
I have yet to go to New Zealand and Australia! It's on my bucket list to ride there so maybe next summer that will be my next move.

Q. What’s your go-to SALTT flavor when you’re out riding?
That's a tough one, if I have a thermos is definitely going to be the Cocoa Loco for a quick warm up but if it's in the water bottle then I think the Mondo Melon might be my favorite.
Q. How do hydration and recovery play into your sessions or filming days?
It's hard to remember that even when it's cold, I am sweating. I might not notice it as much and also being at high elevations your body needs different levels or hydration then when in different conditions. Having a drink that tastes so good helps me to drink more water then I normally would have so that when I'm getting off the mountain I'm not so depleted that I can wake up feeling good to do it all over again.
Q. What do you like to do when you’re not riding?
I spend a lot of my winter on a snowmobile which has become a new hobby in itself, not just a tool. In the summertime you can find me playing some golf tournaments or planning some surf trip and when I'm real low key I'll be digging in the dirt gardening for a fall harvest.

Q. What’s something about you people might not expect?
I can remember every dream I've ever have and can lucid dream sometimes.
Q. Snowboarding is such a community-driven culture, what does being part of that mean to you?
Community is everything and I think that being part of something greater then myself can give me purpose to be the best advocate and supporter of what I do in hopes that others can feel like they belong, especially if it is new for them.
Q. If you could only bring three things on a snow trip, what would they be?
A camera, a shovel, and my dog.
Q. If SALTT made a flavor inspired by you, what would it be called?
I think a cucumber mint flavor would be tasty, I'd call it Cool-Cumber Mint!
